Where the 42U server rack fits
Every range needs its flagship, and in racks the flagship is measured in units. The 42U is the full height cabinet in the AV RACKS line: two metres of steel on the standard 600 x 600 mm footprint, giving maximum capacity for comprehensive AV, networking and automation systems in a single cabinet. It is built for large residential developments, commercial buildings and any installation where equipment density is the defining constraint.
High load installations punish weak detailing, which is why the essentials come included. A UK standard aluminium shell PDU handles dependable power distribution, two cooling fans keep airflow consistent, and threaded rail holes run the full height of the cabinet. Forty two units of mounting without a single cage nut is not a small thing when you are the one doing the mounting.
Planning a 42U build
A full height rack rewards the same discipline as a small one, applied more strictly. Put the heaviest equipment in the lower third, keep frequently serviced gear between knee and eye level, and dedicate clear vertical paths for power and signal cabling on opposite sides. Number every unit position on the plan before installation day, because with 42 of them, "it goes about there" is not a plan.
Check your room as carefully as your rack. At 2000 mm tall the cabinet needs ceiling clearance for delivery and positioning, and space in front and behind for doors, equipment and working access.
