Where the 6U AV rack fits
The 6U is the smallest cabinet in the AV RACKS range, and it exists because plenty of installs do not need a tower of steel. Apartments, small villas, media rooms and secondary equipment locations all need the same clean mounting and tidy cabling as a plant room, just in less space. At 350 mm tall on the standard 600 x 600 mm footprint, this cabinet does exactly that.
Space being limited is not a reason to accept a lesser build. The 6U carries the same detailing as its bigger siblings: threaded rail holes as standard, so equipment bolts straight in without cage nuts, and a UK standard aluminium shell PDU with a cooling fan supplied with every cabinet, ready to fit during the rack build. Power distribution and airflow support are handled before the first piece of equipment goes in.
Planning a 6U build
Six units of rail space go quickly, so plan the stack before you order equipment. Add up the U heights of everything on the schedule, and if the total lands on exactly 6U, think again. Leaving a spare unit for ventilation gaps and cable dressing is standard practice, and it also leaves room for the access point or switch the client asks for six months later.
Depth deserves the same attention as height. The cabinet is 600 mm deep externally, so check the depth of your longest piece of equipment and allow for connectors and cable bend radius behind it before committing.
